About Art and Tar

A few words from Art and Tar

Our names are Artaius and Taranis, that’s Art and Tar for short (both anagrams of rat)

The name Taranis was handed down as one of the Celtic deities, from whose name the word taran , or thunder, was derived. Artaius, a god of sheep and herders in Celtic Gaul.

We are male rats born in August 2005.

Our person found us in a pet shop with a small boy demanding to have us and his Mum saying he could have us, but she but would not touch us as we were smelly.so our person decided we were too good for them and took us home with her.

Our training is going really well, we have taught our person to do many tricks on demand, one look at our cute little faces and she obeys.

We live in a four storey apartment within our persons house and pass some of our time chewing every hammock that passes our way, if our person was to chose the right pattern we would stop, but she hasn’t got it right yet.

A few words from Mandie (our person)

Tar has had no health problems and is the larger of the two weighing in at a solid 900g, he is not fat just a solid lump of a boy.

Art is the smaller of the two and his weight is now at 600g, believe it or not even at this weight he is quite thin but has a healthy appetite. Art has had health problems which the vet can not get to the bottom of, he has been really unwell twice this year but is now in great health (long may that continue).

Tar is quite laid back with me and my partner Kenny but does not like strangers at all, he is a model citizen doesn’t grab his food and doesn’t chew the furnishings. Art is the dominant one of the pair despite being 300g lighter, Art has a passion for chewing anything except things that are meant to be chewed, luckily I have a sewing machine and make a batch of hammocks on a regular basis as they don’t last long, Art also enjoys Italian leather furniture and suede training shoes, but to be honest I really don’t mind, as long as he stays in good health then I’m happy.
